About

According to Cassandra Brooks from the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, a whopping 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions is accounted for by livestock production (Brooks).

Evidence has shown that a vegan diet can reduce the chances of chronic diseases, according to the National Library of Medicine (Łuszczki, Edyta, et al.).

Also, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claims that due to an attempt to minimize costs and maximize production, factory farms often make cost-cutting sacrifices at the expense of proper animal treatment (“Factory Farming: The Industry behind Meat and Dairy.”).

The TLDR is that animal products can have negative implications for the environment, nutrition, and the treatment of the animals used for production is often cruel. The logical solution is simple: just go vegan. But what if it’s not that simple? I’ve heard so many times from so many different people: “I could never give up animal products because I’d miss __(insert product here) too much.” For many including myself, just the simple act of enjoying the food they eat plays too important of a role in overall satisfaction with life to sacrifice. Not to mention, some plant-based options are pricier than their animal-based alternatives. For many, to suddenly ‘just go vegan’ is not a sustainable option.

So, what if instead of cutting out animal products altogether, I focused on reducing the amount I used? What if I found out which products I can cut out, replace, or reduce without sacrificing on flavor on a dish-by-dish basis?

Join me on my journey to reduce animal products in my diet. On this blog, you will see me post recipes that use animal products, try to discover plant-based alternatives to ingredients in these recipes, and sometimes just post recipes that are delicious to me. Whether you are currently vegan/vegetarian, on a health journey, looking to reduce the amount of animal products in your life, or just a plain omnivore looking for delicious food, I’m sure you will find something for you on this site.
